Rajma hummus

Creamy hummus is a Mediterranean recipe which is much loved across the world. This delicious recipe has a creamy texture and mild flavor.Chickpeas dip is perfect to be served with pita chips, cucumber slices, cherry tomatoes, carrot and celery sticks. However, this traditional hummus can also be customized to be made with lobia or black eyed beans and even rajma or kidney beans. Learn to make this easy dip here.

Rajma chawal is an amazing bowl of love. Other interesting dishes you can make is rajma kebab or rajma tikki.  Kidney beans is extensively used in Mexican food as well. Hence, it is protein rich and delicious. Rajma hummus can be made in case you run out of chickpeas. You can also make the below recipe with can of red kidney beans. However, I feel raw kidney beans work out cheaper in the long run.

Equipment

  • Vitamix / High-speed blender
  • Pressure cooker / instant pot
  • Large mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • Rajma / kidney beans
  • salt
  • water
  • lemon juice / lime juice whatever is available.
  • extra-virgin olive oil
  • cloves of garlic

Instructions

  • Soak kidney beans overnight or for 3-4 hours in water in a large mixing bowl.
  • Boil 1 cup of rajma with salt until it is soft in a presure cooker or instant pot. Discard water.

Now, add 1 cup water, salt, lemon juice along with 1 tbsp. oil to cooked kidney beans in a high-speed blender.

  • Make your homemade hummus by blending until you get a desired consistency.
  • Serve with carrot sticks ,red bell pepper strips and celery sticks, nacho chips or pita bread.

Storage

Store it in an airtight container in refrigerator for 3-4 days.
